From time to time, the fund manager will also seek participation in other equity and equity related securities to achieve optimal portfolio construction. DSP BlackRock Micro-Cap Fund is a small and micro-cap biased equity fund from DSP BlackRock Mutual Fund. 

DSP BlackRock Micro Cap Fund is mandated to invest atleast 65% of its assets in stocks of companies that are beyond the top 300 companies (in terms of market capitalisation). The fund also has the flexibility to invest maximum 35% of its assets in stocks, which have a higher market capitalisation (top 300).  

DSP BlackRock Micro Cap Fund follows bottom-up approach of stock picking with its focus being on companies having competitive advantage over their peers and their leaders in the industry. As small and micro sized companies are largely dependent on management strategy, the fund manager follows an in-depth analysis before picking stocks for the portfolio. The fund manager focuses on - historical and current financial condition of the company, potential value creation / unlocking of value and its impact on earnings growth, capital structure, business prospects, policy environment, management strength, responsiveness to business conditions, product profile, brand equity, market share, competitive edge, research, technological knowhow and transparency in corporate governance, among other things. DSP BlackRock Micro Cap Fund usually holds about 60 – 75 stocks in its portfolio.

By nature, DSP BlackRock Micro-Cap Fund is a high risk-high return fund due to its focus on small cap stocks that are candidate of higher volatility, but have potential to offer multi-fold growth in the long run. Despite being a high-risk fund, DSP BlackRock Micro-Cap Fund has generated superior risk-adjusted returns as compared to its benchmark and many peers in the category. The fund manager's conviction over selected sectors and stocks at all the time and prudent investment strategy has helped DSP BlackRock Micro-Cap Fund reward its investors with high returns over long term.
