About HDFC Small Cap Fund

Launched in April 2008, by Morgan Stanley mutual fund, the fund was christened as Morgan Stanley A.C.E. Fund, focusing primarily on multi-cap strategy. However post its takeover by HDFC Mutual Fund in June 2014, the new fund house changed its fundamental attributes and renamed it as HDFC Small and Mid Cap Fund, thus shifting its focus on companies in the Small and Mid-cap segment. Wef. November 9, 2016, the fund house redefined the asset allocation pattern of HDFC Small and Mid Cap Fund and renamed it to HDFC Small Cap Fund.

HDFC Small Cap Fund seeks to provide long-term capital appreciation by investing in Small-cap and Mid-cap companies. It employs a blend style of investing and looks for stocks having high growth potential in the small and mid cap segment. HDFC Small Cap Fund is mandated to invest 80%-100% of its assets into equities out of which 80%-100% is invested in small cap companies and upto 20% in midcap companies. 

HDFC Small Cap Fund defines small-cap companies as those companies whose market cap is equal to or lower than that of the stock with the largest market cap in the NIFTY Free Float Smallcap 100 Index; while the companies having a market capitalization equal to or lower than that of the stock with the largest market cap in the NIFTY Free Float Midcap 100 Index are defined by the fund as mid-caps.

The performance of HDFC Small Cap Fund is benchmarked against NIFTY Free Float Smallcap 100.
