About SBI Magnum Midcap Fund

SBI Magnum MidCap Fund is an open ended equity fund from SBI Mutual Fund. Positioned as a mid cap biased fund, it holds major portion of its investment in stocks of mid-sized companies.

SBI Magnum MidCap Fund seeks to provide opportunities for long-term capital appreciation by investing in stocks of Mid-cap companies. The fund is mandated to invest 65%-100% of its assets in equities of mid cap companies and 0-20% in equities of other than mid cap companies.

Being a mid cap fund by nature, SBI Magnum MidCap Fund’s portfolio is more inclined towards mid and small cap stocks. The fund defines Midcap companies as those companies whose market capitalization at the time of investment is lower than the last stock in the S&P CNX Nifty Index less 20% (upper range) and above Rs. 200 crores. The low range of classification offers it flexibility to take significant exposure into companies having market cap of less than 1,000 crore, which can easily classify under small caps, but have superior growth potential.

Following growth style of investing, SBI Magnum MidCap Fund usually holds a well-diversified portfolio of about 50-60 stocks. Taking long term growth oriented bets; the fund manager follows buy and hold investment strategy, thus holding each stock over longer duration. The low churning in the portfolio has helped SBI Magnum MidCap Fund keep its turnover ratio low.
