About HDFC Tax Saver

HDFC Tax Saver Fund is an equity linked savings fund from HDFC Mutual Fund, having objective of wealth creation in the long term.

Launched in March 1996, HDFC Tax Saver is one of the oldest funds in the ELSS category. The fund has managed to outperform its benchmark Nifty 500 index across several time frames in the past.

Being an ELSS, HDFC Tax Saver Fund has a mandate to invest at least 80% of its assets in equity and equity related instruments. Under normal circumstances, HDFC Tax Saver Fund prefers to remain fully invested with 80-90% of its assets in equity and rarely take aggressive cash calls.

In order to provide long term capital appreciation, HDFC Tax Saver Fund mainly aims to invest in growth oriented companies. The fund follows bottom up approach of stock picking where in it focuses mainly on company specific factors rather than the macro-economic variables affecting the functioning of a particular industry.

HDFC Tax Saver Fund aims for medium to large sized companies which are likely to achieve above average growth than the industry, enjoy distinct competitive advantages and have superior financial strengths. Historically, the fund has been taking long term view on stocks it picks for its portfolio and is cautious to the valuations of companies it invests in. HDFC Tax Saver Fund follows a simple strategy of staying fully invested in a portfolio of fundamentally sound stocks to avoid the risk of market timing.
