Outlook 2024: Equity, Debt, and Gold - What Lies Ahead in 2024

The year 2023 has been rather eventful. The markets were on a rollercoaster.

But despite this, investors continued to participate positively. Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) and domestic mutual funds were both net buyers in India, recognising that the country is a “bright spot” in the global economy and a key contributor to global growth.

Not wanting to miss the bus and earn market-linked returns, many new investors opened demat accounts. The demat account tally crossed 130 million as of October 2023, nearly 30 million more than the previous year.

Similarly, the mutual folios (also known as the mutual fund accounts) touched an all-time high of 161.8 million.

Overall, the excitement in the Indian capital markets was very palpable.
