A look at the historical portfolios of ZIEF reveals that the fund manager has a buy and hold strategy. The core portfolio is easily identifiable  Ashok Leyland, BHEL, BPCL, Cipla, Dr Reddy's, Hindustan Lever, Macmillan Swaraj Mazda, Wockhardt. Other stocks that have been in the fund's portfolio for some time  ACC, Grasim, Satyam, TISCO.

ZIEF has been consistent in its stock pickings and has not disturbed its core portfolio too much. By holding on to its stocks it has been able to reap the benefits of long term investing. By not churning aggressively it has also kept trading costs at lower levels. These are some of the reasons for its steady performance up 0.7% over last 12 months and up 26% (annualized) over last 3 years. The fund has also consistently outperformed its peers and the benchmark index.
